Looking for Durability? Powder Coating is Best Option

Powder coating is the best choice, if you are looking for a hard protective coating that is tough and resistant to abrasion. You get your exact shade of color, finish and thickness. The volatile organic compounds are near zero and the over spray is totally recycled. The powder coating booths are therefore cheaper automotive paint booth both in capital and operating costs. As an adjunct to your automotive paint booth it’s a good idea to install powder coating booths since automobile extrusions and other components are normally powder coated for durability. The process of coating in a powder booth starts with degreasing and surface preparation. The prepared articles are next powder coated using an electrostatic gun. The powder coated articles move on a conveyor belt inside the conveyor oven where the articles are cured at 425 F and the surplus powder is recovered for reuse in the recovery booth. The ovens use fuzzy logic and have a touch screen operation.

Modern Robotically Controlled Spray Booth

The industrial spray booths encompass airplane booths and production tunnels. The airplane booths can accommodate any aircraft from a small two-seat airplane to a jumbo jet or a USAF fighter aircraft. Production tunnels on the other hand cater to all types of products that need to be spray painted, powder coated or composite coated among others. The tunnel comprises of a surface preparation section, an automatic spray booth and a robotically controlled conveyor oven. In the surface preparation section the articles are blasted and washed or rinsed with agents and dried. In the spray or powder booth section, the articles are either painted or powder coated using electrostatic process for the coat. The articles next move on to the conveyor oven for the baking operation. Curing is at 425 F by the oven that has a high temperature plug blower and a high temperature variable exhaust besides fully automatic controls.

Painting vs. Powder Coating

Paint booths are still popular despite the advent of powder booths. Powder coat beats the paint brush because of cheaper capital and running costs. The powder coat is tougher and resistant to abrasion. It also provides a relatively harder exterior than the paint film. Generally, It’s easier to provide the exact color and finish that you desire in a powder coat. The powder coat does not sag or run as the coat becomes thicker unlike in the case of the paint. Finally, wastage losses are almost zilch since the entire overspray can generally be recycled.

Thin paint films on the other hand are easier to apply, they are more stable under UV radiation and sometimes you get more color options than powder coats at a cheaper cost. The recycling of multi color overspray is not possible for powder coats. Finally, both paint and powder booths are popular in their own sphere of application.

Improving Product Value by Powder Coating

The relatively hard coating of a powder-coated product compared to a painted product and the production of the exact shade of the finish and color are some of the reasons of the popularity of the powder booth over the spray booth. Lower capital and running costs, wide range of thickness, extremely low volatile organic compounds and almost 100% utilization of the raw material are also the reasons why powder coating booths greatly improve product value.

Despite the fact that you can go in for a much thicker coat in the case of powder coating, there is no sagging or running which surely would have been true in the case of a normal paint coat.

A modern powder booth has a conveyor system that runs the products through the preparation section - involving blasting, washing, rinsing and drying. The prepared articles are powder-coated via an electrostatic mechanism and then baked in a conveyor oven.

Spray Booths and their Critical Areas

Industrial spray booths include airplane booths and production tunnels. They also include open face booths in all conceivable sizes and configurations subject to the customer’s specifications. From ‘table tops’ to airplane booths spray booths can come in a variety of shapes and sizes. While tabletops come as the functional variants of open-faced spray booths, airplane booths can accommodate two seat airplanes to the Boeing 747’s and fighter jets.
The critical areas in these spray booths are economy, ruggedness of design and fabrication, adequacy of lighting, ease of erection and a process control which ensures speed of operation as well as environment protection.
In almost all cases, the filters are highly efficient and monitored electronically and the walls are coated with white powder for easy maintainability. The conveyor in production tunnels comes with automated robotic system for ease in batch production.

Give Your Products that Special Finish

There are professional manufacturers fabricating quality paint booths for all purposes. These booths are capable of painting metal, plastic or any other surface.

Paint booths are highly specialized and energy-efficient units, designed and fabricated to technological perfection. These production units range from automotive paint booths, industrial and truck spray booths of various types to production tunnels. Industrial spray booths can paint airplanes as large as a Boeing 747. Open-faced and tabletop spray paint booths are also available in the market.

The common features in all the different varieties of paint booths include:

1) Panels, which made of galvanized steel sheets of 18 gauge and punched with precision machines for easy erection

2) Light fixtures, which are strategically placed. This ensures the total absence of shadows in the work place. Also, they are located inside the booth, which ensures clean exterior walls and simple maintenance

3) Electronic monitoring of filters, ensuring absence of pollutants
